About pdf to jpg

Converting a PDF to images is what you do when the destination will not take a PDF. Social platforms, some content management systems, presentation software, marketplace listings, and a surprising number of internal forms accept a JPEG and refuse a document. Rendering the pages out is the fix, and it is a rendering job rather than a conversion in any meaningful sense — you are photographing the pages.

PDF.js draws each page to a canvas at the scale you choose, and the canvas is encoded to JPEG. Resolution is the only setting that really matters. Screen resolution is fine for anything that will be viewed on a display and keeps the files small. Print resolution roughly triples the pixel count and is what you want if the image will be printed or cropped into. High resolution is for archival or for pages with fine detail like maps and technical drawings, and produces large files quickly.

JPEG is the right choice for pages that are photographic or that contain scanned images, because its compression is designed for continuous tone and handles them efficiently. It is the wrong choice for pages that are mostly crisp black text on white, where JPEG artefacts show up around the letterforms as a faint halo. For those, PNG produces a cleaner result at a larger file size — there is a dedicated PDF to PNG tool for exactly that case.

Every page is rendered locally, which means the time this takes scales with page count and resolution rather than with your connection. A twenty-page document at screen resolution is nearly instant. The same document at high resolution takes noticeably longer and uses a lot of memory, because each page becomes a large bitmap before it is encoded. On a phone, stick to screen or print resolution for anything over a few dozen pages.
