About organize pdf
This is the tool for documents that are nearly right. The appendix ended up before the summary. A duplicate page slipped into the scan. Page 12 came out upside down and pages 40 to 45 are somebody else's file that got stapled in by accident. None of that needs a rebuild from source — it needs pages moved, dropped, and turned, which is a five-minute job if you can see the pages while you work.
Every page is rendered to a thumbnail with PDF.js so you are working visually rather than guessing at page numbers. Drag a thumbnail to move it. Click the remove control to exclude a page from the output — it stays visible but dimmed, so you can change your mind before saving rather than starting over. The rotate control on each thumbnail turns that page only.
When you save, pdf-lib builds a new document by copying the pages you kept, in the order you arranged them, with the rotations you set. It is a copy operation rather than a re-render, so nothing is recompressed and text stays selectable. The result is a clean document rather than an edited one — there is no revision history and no trace of the pages you removed, which matters if you are dropping pages for a reason.
Thumbnail rendering is the slow part on large documents, because every page has to be drawn. A 200-page file takes a moment on a laptop and longer on a phone. Pages render progressively so you can start working before the last one finishes. If you only need to reorder a handful of pages in a very large document, splitting out the section first is usually faster than waiting for 200 thumbnails.
Organize PDF FAQ
How do I delete a page from a PDF?
Drop the file, then click the remove control on any page thumbnail. The page dims rather than disappearing, so you can undo it. Save when the document looks right.
Can I reorder pages by dragging?
Yes. Drag any thumbnail to a new position and the rest shift around it. The saved document follows the order you see on screen.
Is the removed content really gone?
Yes. The output is a new document built from the pages you kept. Removed pages are not carried across in any form, hidden or otherwise.
Why are the thumbnails slow to appear?
Each page has to be rendered to an image in your browser. Large documents take longer, and phones take longer than laptops. Pages appear progressively as they finish.
Does this change the quality of the pages?
No. Pages are copied as objects rather than re-rendered, so images keep their original compression and text stays selectable and searchable.
Can I combine this with merging?
Merge your documents first, then organize the combined file. Doing it in that order lets you interleave pages from different sources.
